1917-2014

Independence, Missouri- Verneil Wave Simmons, 97, Independence, passed away on August 25, 2014.
Verneil was born on August 20, 1917 in Deloit, Iowa to Russell and Ethel (Galland) Newcom.
On April 24, 1938, Verneil married Wayne Simmons in Cameron, MO.
Verneil was a member of the Zarahemla Branch of the RLDS Church, Blue Springs, MO.
Verneil was a survivor of ovarian cancer in 1956.
She was an adventurous spirit. She was a world traveler, published writer, teacher, and a good mother who loved her Lord.
Verneil traveled to Aruba, Costa Rica, Mexico City, Peru, Turkey, Israel, all over Europe and throughout the United States.
Verneil was a published author most known for “Peoples, Places and Prophecies” and her last novel, “The Tender Twig.” She wrote many more articles and books throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; 2 sons, Gareth and Dana; 3 brothers, Daryl, Donald and Paul Newcom; daughter-in-law, Judith Simmons.
Survivors: Son, Neil Simmons, Independence; daughter-in-law, Genie Simmons, Independence; 5 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Graveside Services: 10:00 AM, Monday, September 1, 2014 at Delano Cemetery, Cameron for close family and friends. Arrangements: Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron.
