Obituary for Luke Edman Hogue

Luke E. Hogue
2000-2018

Platte City, Missouri- Luke Edman Hogue, age 17, of Platte City, MO passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 27 as a result of a car accident. Luke was a Senior at Platte County High School.

Anyone that knew Luke knows he loved to talk and debate. During Middle School he participated and excelled in debate with Debate KC. As a 7th grade student he was ranked #1 in the metro area after finishing 2nd the prior year. During a debate sponsored by Senator Haley on the topic of school funding he received 1st place as he compared education to food. “Everyone wants a filet mignon education,” he said, “except they are getting a bologna sandwich.” At the end of his speech he tossed the senator a bologna sandwich while commenting he was headed out to enjoy a filet mignon. That was the Luke we all knew and loved.

In High School Luke enjoyed his Weightlifting and Conditioning classes. He often challenged his coach and classmates during class. His future plans included joining the military upon graduation. Luke loved his country and was passionate about serving to defend the freedom we enjoy. In a recent class Luke wrote his own obituary. In it he described himself as a connoisseur of medium rare rib eye steaks, BBQ ribs and cheesecake. He also stated that he attended and graduated barely from Platte County High School. He went on to say that he was a successful business man who loved American made muscle cars and dreamed of owning a 1969 Chevy Chevelle SS with a 396 under the hood. He wanted black leather interior with limo tinted windows and a matte black paint job.

In addition to attending school Luke worked at Price Chopper in Platte City in the seafood and meat department. He loved his job and those he worked with. His co-workers and management staff were much more than co-workers to him, they were his mentors, his friends, and part of his family.

During his spare time Luke loved hanging out with friends, cruising in his car with Corra and spending time with his black lab Cali. When Luke obtained his driver’s license he was adamant about being an organ donor so he could help save the lives of others. Luke also loved the mountains of Colorado, the Kansas City Chiefs and his many friends.

Luke is survived by his parents Rhonda and Joseph Hogue of the home; sister Katie Hogue and his beloved Great-Grandmother, Winifred Gross, Cameron, MO. Maternal grandparents include Robin and Kenneth Connell, Stewartsville, MO and Ronnie Gross, Osborn, MO; Aunt, Julie Mattson, Cameron and Uncle, Ryan Gross, Osborn, MO; cousins, Alex and Brett Gross, St. Joseph, MO; numerous other family and friends.
