Obituary for Larry Mitchell "Mitch" Roberts

Larry Mitchell "Mitch" Roberts
L. Mitchell Roberts
1954-2018

Cameron, Missouri - Larry Mitchell “Mitch” Roberts was born on August 3, 1954 in Brookfield, Missouri to parents Layton “Kenneth” Roberts and Nell “Marie” (Ball) Dudgeon. Within minutes of his birth, he grew a boss moustache and asked the doctors and nurses what they thought the St. Louis Cardinals’ record would be that season.

Mitch attended high school in Kirksville, Missouri, where he met his future wife, Teresa “TC” Killday. They were married on June 21, 1975 and eventually settled in Cameron, Missouri, where they raised their sons Brian, Andrew, and Tyler, and their daughter Jennifer.

He was a proud and active member of the Cameron community, serving on the board of directors at Clinco Sheltered Industries, Treasurer of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of St. Munchin Catholic Church. He was employed at Cameron Mutual Insurance for twenty-seven years at the time of his passing.

Mitch enjoyed sports of all types, but derived particular enjoyment from coaching youth basketball in Cameron. A generation of Cameron Dragons can attribute their ability to keep their butts down while playing defense to Mitch’s tutelage. Mitch would have wanted to remind them to stay low enough that they can put their hands on the floor. It isn’t easy, but that’s what needs to be done if you want to play good defense.

Mitch truly wanted to get to know each person he met. He was so friendly that even door-to-door solicitors found themselves so deeply engaged in conversation on the front porch that TC would finally have to open the door and tell Mitch that it was time to come inside. And when Mitch laughed, everyone laughed...particularly his grandchildren, Kendall and Brock, who called him “Papa Mitchie”.

Mitch parted this earth on February 10, 2018. He is survived by his wife of the home, TC; 4 children, Brian Roberts (Kylee), Jennifer Page (Scott), Andrew Roberts, and Tyler Roberts; father and mother, Kenneth and Carol Roberts, 2 grandchildren, Kendall Roberts and Brock Roberts; 4 brothers, Mike Roberts (Barb), Bob Roberts (Brenda), Rick Roberts (Cindy), and Gary Dudgeon (Linda); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie (Ball) Dudgeon and his brother, Todd Dudgeon.

Services: 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Cameron United Methodist Church. Rosary: 5:30 PM, Friday evening with visitation following from 6-9:00PM at Poland-Thompson Funeral Home 222 W. Third Street, Cameron. Burial: St. Munchin Catholic Cemetery, Cameron. Mitch would have been appreciative of the flowers, but would have preferred that you help send a deserving student to college by donating to the Mitch Roberts Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
