Obituary for Oneita "Joan" Parrish (Lain)
Oneita “Joan” Parrish, age 85, of Liberty, MO passed away on July 16, 2019 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. She is preceded in death by her parents Katie and John Lain, her sister, Bernice Crow, son-in-law, Jeff Dalzell, and grandson, Logan Snodgrass.
Joan grew up in Ralls, TX and moved to Liberty, MO in 1957. She will be remembered by her loving husband of 66 years, Leroy Parrish, along with their children, grandchildren & spouses: Blake & Mary Margaret Parrish, Rhonda Dalzell, and Lisa Parrish; Kristin George, Mike & Alan Parrish, Casey & Molly Snodgrass, Kim & Ryan Taylor, and Katie & Paul Fortney. “Gigi” and her love for milkshakes will be missed greatly by her 9 great grandchildren, also known as the “Milkshake Club” -- Mason, Kendall, Ashley, Ruby, Fox, Keira, Connor, Marshall, and Kami.
When Joan moved to Liberty, she started her legacy by babysitting preschool children. She was the leader of several organizations including Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, 4H Club, the PTA, the Carousel Dance Club, and volunteered as the baseball scorekeeper. After her children were older, Joan decided to start her career in her late 30’s and became a very successful real estate broker for the next 40 years.
Joan was a member of St. James Catholic Church of Liberty, MO. She never missed a soccer game, baseball game or dance recital. She loved traveling with friends and family, musicals and movies, dancing, spending time at the casino, hosting Christmas Eve among other gatherings and will forever be known for her “Three French Hens” part when singing the 12 Days of Christmas. She was an avid Chiefs and Royals fan. Joan taught her family to work hard, love everyone, enjoy life, and love the Lord.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Joan’s life on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at St. James Catholic Church in Liberty, MO. Visitation begins @ 10:00 am; Mass/Service @ 11:00 am; Reception/Lunch @ 12:00 pm. Flowers are welcome, however, will be accepting donations to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, as well.
