Gallatin, Missouri- Olin Lee Vanderslice, 84, of Lake Viking, Gallatin, MO and formerly of Cortland, N.Y. passed away March 25, 2014, in Cameron MO. Memorial service will be held at 3pm Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Poland-Thompson Funeral Home in Cameron. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Private inurnment at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cope Cemetery or Comfort Care Hospice in care of the Poland-Thompson Funeral Home in Cameron.

Olin was born on a farm south of Pattonsburg to Everett M. and Ruby (Beeler) Vanderslice May 6, 1929. He attended school near Rock Port, Santa Rosa, Maysville, and graduated from Winston High School in 1947. He worked on an irrigation farm in Nebraska, then attended Gard Business School, then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948, serving four years. On discharge he began farming along with his wife Janice (Hulett) whom he had married August 20, 1950, in Gallatin. They farmed until 1959 when Olin decided, after working with Daviess County ASC and SCS, that with his avid interest in agriculture, he wished to further his education, and enrolled at K-State School of Engineering, graduating with a B.S. in Agricultural Engineering. He worked for International Harvester, Moline Illinois; Hart-Carter, Mendota Illinois; Farmland Industries, Kansas City; and Agway Inc., Syracuse New York, retiring in 1991. His work took him to most of the states in the U.S. and several provinces of Canada, doing testing, research and development of farm equipment; animal housing, waste management, and crop production, especially corn. On retirement he returned to Missouri and along with his brother Bob, started a hybrid seed corn brand until failing health and the loss of his brother. Olin was a member of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers and the North Atlantic Agricultural Engineer Society. He was an elder in the Cortland New York Presbyterian Church, and moderator of the adult class for several years. He was also a member of Daviess County Extension Council. He loved caring and mowing the lawn on his green tractor as well as planting flowers and tending his garden.

Olin was preceded in death by his parents: Everett and Ruby (Beeler), two brothers: Bobbie Gene and Kenneth Wayne Vanderslice.

Olin is survived by his wife Janice of 63 years, children: John (Rita) of Kansas City, Missouri, Janette (Michael) Sweem of Richmond, Maine, Jeffrey (Flerida) of Kernersville, North Carolina, Jennifer (John) Sciarabba of Rochester, New York, seven grandchildren: Joshua and Jessica Vanderslice, Rebecca Sweem, Jack and Olivia Sciarabba, Sophia and Evan Vanderslice, two brothers: Rex and Gary (Mae) Vanderslice, both of Winston, one aunt: Mrs. Nina Pittsenbarger, a sister-in-law: Margaret Evans, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
