Shawnee, KS- William “Bill” Edgar McDannold, Sr., 96, passed away on November 23, 2014. Our old pilot ran out of fuel, stayed his course and glided gently to a soft landing with family at his side.
He was born on October 20, 1918 to William Earl and Ruth (Smith) McDannold in the family home near Clarksville, Missouri. Bill graduated from high school in Louisiana, Missouri.
His time at the University of Missouri was interrupted by war in 1943. He and Erma, his wife of 67 years, were married in Frederick TX while he was stationed there for pilot training.

Post war, Bill reunited with Erma and met Bill Jr. Back at MU he earned a bachelors’ degree in agricultural science. A thirty-three year career with the Missouri Department of Conservation found Bill developing and managing public use wildlife management areas. He was a member of United Methodist Church, Cameron, MO; VFW, American Legion Post #33 and AF & AM Vincil Lodge # 62 as a thirty-three degree Free Mason.
