1926-2015


Cameron, Missouri- Richard Conrad Olson, 89, Cameron, Missouri passed away on February 27, 2015.
Richard was born on January 18, 1926 in on the Olson farm in Kansas City, Kansas to Duward and Rose (Ramig) Olson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Robert; 2 sisters, Eleanor Schlosser and Lorraine Rabe.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II as a paratrooper from 1943-1946 with the Screaming Eagles, 101st Airborne Division and received a purple heart. He worked in the post office in Chicago, Illinois while in school for instrument training.
Returning to Kansas City area he worked as a driver for Belger-Cartage Company with the Local 41, retiring after 20 years.
He earned GED from Turner High School in 1950.
On September 2, 1950, Richard married Mary Lee in Leavenworth, KS.
Richard was a member of the Wyandotte Lodge #3 A.F. & A.M, Kansas City, KS and the Local #41Teamsters.
Survivors: Wife, Mary Lee of the home; step-son, Roy (Judy) Scott, Liberty, MO; 3 grandchildren, Shelly Scott, Michael (Brandy) Lemons and Collin Lemons; 4 great-grandchildren, Robby Scott, Holly Leavey, Anthony and TJ Lemons; 2 great-great-grandchildren; foxhole buddy, John O’Connor, Grand Island, NY.
Graveside Services with Military Honors: 1:30 PM, Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas.
Visitation: 10:00-11:30 AM, Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron, MO. Memorial donations to the Shriners Children’s Hospital. Online condolences: www.polandthompson.com.
