1920-2015


Osborn, Missouri- John Elias Hankins, 94, Osborn passed away on March 13, 2015.
John was born on October 20, 1920 in Osborn, Missouri to Carl and Kathryn (Hawn) Hankins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred Hankins and daughter, Marilyn Crenshaw.
John was a graduate of Osborn High School. He served for 23 ½ years in the United States Air Force, before retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. He was a Prisoner of War for 15 months in German camps Luft Stalag VI and Stalag IV in Pomerania.
John was a member of the Osborn United Baptist Church, Osborn, MO; Osborn American Legion and the Scroll saw Association.
Survivors: 3 brothers, Gene Hankins, Kansas City, MO, Robert (Dorothy) Hankins, Cameron, and Darrell (Jo) Hankins, Homewood, AL; sister, Ella Burr, Cameron; 3 granddaughters, Amy (Darin) Sanders, Smithville, Tiffany (Corry) Smith, Fairfield, CA, and Brooke (Nate) Lesan, Gardner, KS; 6 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron. Visitation: 1:00-2:00 PM, prior to the service. Burial: Osborn Evergreen Cemetery, Osborn, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Osborn Baptist Church. Online condolences: www.polandthompson.com.
