Douglas O. Phair
1941-2015


Cameron, Missouri - Douglas Owen Phair, 74, Cameron, formerly of International Falls, MN passed away on July 8, 2015, following an extended illness. He was born February 8, 1941 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota to J. Harold and Mary Phair, longtime residents of International Falls, Minnesota.
Douglas led a remarkable and full life. Following graduation from Falls High School in 1960, he served his Country as a member of the Green Beret, a cryptographer, sharp shooter, and highly decorated war hero in the Vietnam conflict. Upon his return to civilian life, he attended the University of Minnesota and the University of South Dakota where he graduated with a MA degree in geophysics. While studying at the University of Minnesota, he conducted early studies on Moon Rocks brought back from the Moon. He was an accomplished bush pilot and crop-dusting pilot in his earlier years and worked in the family hardware store. Douglas owned and operated D & S Motor Transport for over 20 years. After retiring, he was a teacher at Crossroads Correctional Center in Cameron, MO. A devoted family man, he married Susan Hill on February 5, 1966, and was a devoted father to Eric, Houston, Tx, Heidi (Ryan) Hartley, Cameron, MO, grandson, Owen Hartley and D.J. Phair (Mallory Hamann),Cameron. He left behind 5 sisters, Gwen (Ray) Kosi, Betty (Richard) Baine, Iris (Peter) Acutt, Migs (David) Lewis, and Janet Colletti; brother, David (Karen) Phair.
Visitation: 7-8:00 PM, Friday, July 10, 2015 at Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missouri Veteran’s Home Assistance League, 1111 Euclid, Cameron, MO 64429. Online condolences: www.polandthompson.com.
