Bom-Wrapper

The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Eugene "Gene" Hankins can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

I am so sorry for your family's loss! I grew up in one of the houses that backs up to Mr. Hankins property. My parents, the McDaniel's still live there. I believe it was after he retired that Mr. Hankins built the playhouse in his backyard. I'm sure he really built it for his grandkids but he ALWAYS would let my siblings and I and all the other neighbor kids go inside and play. He and his wife would invite us in for snacks and drinks especially in the summer when it was hot. We spent countless hours in that playhouse! They were always more than willing to buy something from our school fundraiser even though they had grandkids living nearby. As I got older, I remember Mr. Hankins helping hang the American flags during important holidays like Veterans Day or Memorial Day. You would see him out there no matter the weather making sure all the flags looked perfect. He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed!
