Overland Park, Kansas- Winona Avanell Ensign, 97, Overland Park, Kansas formerly of Cameron, Missouri passed away on November 13, 2017.
Winona was born January 29, 1920 in Cameron, Missouri to Walter and Dora (Miller) Groves.
She was a 1938 graduate of Cameron High School. In October 1969, Winona worked as Assistant Postmaster in Cowgill. In February of 1983, she became the Postmaster in Cowgill until September of 1994, when she retired. She and Gene also owned and operated Ensign Ford Tractor and Implements in Cowgill, Missouri for over 20 years.
Winona was a member of the Cameron United Methodist Church.
On August 20, 1958, Winona married Gene Ensign at the Mable Church in Cameron, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene in 2008; brother, Donald Groves; 2 sisters, Dorothy Ensign and Francis Shaver.
Survivors: sister, Betty Terry, Andover, Kansas and nieces and nephews.
Memorial service: 11:00 AM, Friday, November 17, 2017 at Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron. Visitation: 10-11:00 AM, prior to the service. Inurnment: Evergreen Cemetery, Cameron, Missouri.
